The three types of impetigo are non-bullous (crusted), bullous (large blisters), and ecthyma (ulcers): Non-bullous or crusted impetigo is most common ecthyma: [ ek-thi´mah ] an ulcerative pyoderm usually caused by group A beta-hemolytic streptococcal infection at the site of minor trauma, predominantly involving the shins and feet, and generally healing with variable scar formation. ecthyma gangreno´sum a condition most often seen in debilitated patients in association with septicemia. The main symptom of ecthyma is a small blister with a red border that may be filled with pus. The blister is similar to that seen in persons with impetigo, but the infection spreads much deeper into the skin. After the blister goes away, a crusty ulcer appears. Treatment.
